Lobbying and Patience Pay Off in Cedar Rapids Federal Flood Funds

10 years after Cedar Rapids was inundated by flood waters, the U-S Army Corps of Engineers has announced it’ll approve $117-million in flood protection funds for the city.

Cedar Rapids officials say several flood-control projects have been completed and several more are underway, but there’s still a need for funding to complete the entire permanent flood-control system.

Nevertheless, local florist Al Pierson says the news from Washington is a big boost for him and his business neighbors.

KXEL’s Jeff Stein will talk with Iowa U-S Senator Joni Ernst about the federal flood-protection funds coming to Cedar Rapids, this(Fri) afternoon at 2:45 on “Live & Local.”
